Out of the hundreds of traffic generation strategies there are on the internet i find that traffic from affiliates in your marketplace absolutely blows every other method out of the water. If you want an abundance of targeted, qualified visitors to your website who have a propensity to spend money then you need to build yourself a high converting affiliate program. The better your program, the more affiliates you recruit, the more money you make. Simple.

The key to having a successful affiliate program is to have a high ‘visitor value’, this is the value of every customer that an affiliate sends to your website. For example if an affiliate sends you 500 clicks and you pay them $500 in commissions then your visitor value is $1. (Visitor value is also known as EPC or earnings per click) . Whoever has the highest visitor value for their affiliates gets the traffic. That is an internet marketing fact and if you are building your own affiliate program one you really need to understand.

So how do you increase your visitor value? Well there are some things you can add to your sales process to ensure you make more money from each customer therefore increasing your EPC.

Add upsells. 

An upsell is where your prospect has already decided to make an initial purchase but at the point of sale you make them another offer at a slightly increased price. You can do this before and after the initial purchase has been made these are called a bump upsell and a post sale upsell.

A bump upsell is presented before the initial purchase has been made. Next to your add to cart button you can have a tick box with some text ‘tick this box if you would like to add our xyz product for 95% off’. They tick the box and the second product is added to their order. This isn’t the only way to incorporate a bump upsell but it is very effective.

A post sale upsell is positioned after the initial purchase has been made on the success page offering a more in-depth or ‘premium’ version of the original product. If your original product was a traffic generation report then this product could be a series of videos with transcriptions and audios all going into more detail about the traffic methods you were writing about.

Thank you page offers

This would be the final upsell in your sequence. Some customers will just want to keep on buying from you, a few carefully placed offers on your thank you page will bring you in tonnes more revenue.

If you have all these offers in place then you can guarantee to increase your visitor value which ultimately means affiliates will be more likely to promote for you first over anybody else.
